A worked example

Savings depend on the original file. The result can be larger; compare the displayed byte sizes.

Input / settings

A JPEG photograph
Output: WebP; quality: 80

Expected result

A WebP at the original pixel dimensions, with measured input/output bytes.
A LITTLE GUIDANCE

How to use Image compressor

Choose one or more images, select JPEG or WebP and set quality. Select Compress image, compare each output’s bytes and decoded preview, then download one image or the batch ZIP.

Good to know

Choose up to 10 files / 30 MB combined; each file must be PNG, JPEG or WebP, at most 20 MB and 40 megapixels. Processing stays in your browser. Animation and original metadata are not preserved. Keep your originals.

A few quick answers.

Why can the output be larger?

An already optimized source can grow when re-encoded. Compare the displayed byte sizes, reduce quality, or switch WebP/JPEG. No fixed percentage reduction is guaranteed.

Is my input sent to a server?

No. This tool processes your input in your browser. We don't store your text, files or results. Standard website access logs are separate; read our privacy notes.

Can I use it for free?

Yes. No account, subscription or usage credits are required.

How do I keep my result?

Use Copy or Download after running the tool. Inputs are not saved automatically and disappear when you leave or refresh the page.

Image workflow and quality guide

Compare quality, not just a percentage

Quality 80 is an encoder setting, not a promise to retain 80% of the original quality or reduce size by 80%. Try a lower setting and inspect edges, small text and smooth gradients. The preview shows decoded exported bytes, so it can reveal lossy artifacts.

A larger result is a valid outcome

An already optimized image can grow after re-encoding. The report shows actual input and output bytes and labels the result smaller or larger. Dimensions do not change. To reduce dimensions as well, use the resizer first and then choose that downloaded image here.

No guaranteed target in KB

This tool does not automatically hit 100 KB or any other target size. Change quality or format, rerun, and compare the actual bytes. JPEG flattens transparency onto white; WebP can retain it. Metadata and animation are not preserved.

Batch results and ZIP contents

The same settings apply to every selected image. Review each result: a batch may contain both successful and failed files. The ZIP includes successful images and results.txt with the report; it does not silently include failed originals. Batch output is bounded to 100 MB. If a limit is reached, use smaller batches. ZIP packaging does not add image-quality loss.

Choose your next step: resize dimensions, change image format, compare compression or rotate and mirror. Download the result before opening it in another tool.

Keep your flow going.
